Ungheria, 1910. Al castello della principessa Alessandra e sua madre Beatrice, arriva il principe Alberto che è in cerca di moglie. Beatrice non vuol farsi sfuggire l'occasione e cerca di mettere in bella luce la figlia. Alessandra, devota alla famiglia, segue i consigli della madre ma Alberto sembra indifferente. Durante un ballo Beatrice spinge Alessandra a flirtare con il precettore Nicola nel tentativo di far far ingelosire Alberto...
