Ambientata tra le Montagne Rocciose dell’Alberta, la serie racconta la storia delle sorelle Fleming: la teenager Amy e la 'newyorkese' d'adozione Samantha Louise Lou. Dopo la scomparsa della madre, in seguito a un incidente automobilistico, le due sorelle decidono di gestire e prendersi cura del ranch Heartland. Impresa non facile, visti i problemi economici e le banche poco disponibili. Intorno alle due sorelle ruotano diversi personaggi: Ty, segretamente innamorato di Amy, che ha alle spalle un passato difficile; Mallory, una ragazzina chiacchierona e senza peli sulla lingua...
