Robert 'Mac' MacDougal è considerato il maggior ladro d'arte del mondo, e viene pertanto considerato colpevole di furto quando a New York viene rubato un Rembrandt. Le indagini vengono affidate a Gin Baker, agente investigatrice di un'assicurazione, che anziché farlo arrestare diventa sua socia. Dopo un'iniziale fase di addestramento, Mac e Gin progettano ed eseguono furti spettacolari...
